Historic 1st CD Release of the Grandfather of Philippine Jazz
The music of Emil Mijares, Grandfather of Philippine Jazz, is celebrated in a 2 hour gala event highlighting some of his greatest recordings and favorite songs of all time including an original composition.
Ric Ickard Records will release the historic 1st CD of Emil Mijares’ lifeworks,Reflections. Tickets are $5.00 at the door. CDs will be on sale for $15.00.

WHY: Incorporating global influences through improvisation, American Jazz is now a worldwide phenomenon with many Filipino artists making the genre their own. Prolific pianist, musical director, composer, arranger and studio musician, Emil Mijares stands as an icon and inspiration for Filipino musicians and jazz aficionados today. His career spanned generations, earning him several CAT awards in the 1950’s and 60’s, the Cecil Award for Best Musical Director in 1979, and Aliw Awards for Best Jazz Performer and Best Musical Director in the 1980’s. In 1971 Asia Magazine named him one of Asia’s Top Jazz Artists. Over the years Mijares performed with such legends as Nat King Cole, Teddy Edwards, Kevyn Lettau, Denzil “Broadway” Miller and many others.
